Maxine and Max Aronofsky, a happily married couple for over fifty years, have retired from a life on the stage and live in a simple Florida cottage. Maxine is perfectly content with sitting on the porch with a cup of tea, whereas Max still has an itch to continue performing. Throughout the play, Max tries to reawaken Maxine’s interest in performance by reading through the play “The Gin Game.” However, Maxine’s love and passion for theatre does not overshadow her realist view of life. Maxine acknowledges that she and Max are not as young as they used to be, and putting on a touring company of a play is not possible anymore.
